Today we are trying something different artistically. Rather than my usual Halloween / Haunt themed works, we are doing 2D painting with CALJessamine. Peggy Bishop pulled the class together and did a great job getting us all going.
CAL is offering 8 of these this year, each with a different theme. I'd urge anyone that may be interested in painting to attend and give it a shot.
New techniques and materials just capture my imagination. I am always ready to try something that I have not done before. Shortly before Christmas, I did a series on wooden panels using oil paint and cold wax medium. First, I put some collage materials down on the panels. Then I mixed the wax medium with the oil paints and used a palette knife to apply. I love the wonderful matte finish you can get with this tecnique.
It always interests me just what an artist will find fascinating and want to paint, sculpt or draw. For me, at this time, it is images of koi fish. I am creating fabric collages of abstractions of koil fish, trying to capture their movement and color. The biggest challenge to doing fabric collage is figuring out how to present them. I do not want them hung as wall hanging, yet putting them in a frame under glass seems to dimish the tactile effect. I think I have figured out a good way to present them but need to find a woodworker/carpenter who is willing to learn a technique of japanes
