The KCAL Old Time Radio Hour troup performed four performances of "Hometown Christmas" to sold-out audiences this past weekend. For the first time in their three year history, KCAL performed matinees on both Saturday and Sunday. This show, written by troupe member David Damron, was an adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" tailored to Nicholasville. The musical ending, where all sang "Silent Night", helped put everyone in the Christmas mood.
50 plus persons braved the chill to attend the commencement exhibit for the Fall 2017 Junior Creative Art League (JCAL) program for children. During this fall semester, the young artists studied various schools and techniques of art such as pointilism, cubism, fauvism and abstract expressionism. They created works of art in each of the styles they studied. This was the ninth session of this popular Sunday program for artists ages 6-11. Registration is open for the Spring 2018 session. Though lightly attended, the paint-in featured luscious Christmas still life set-ups by Jaqueline Schwartz. Making a decision on which one to paint was quite difficult, especially since I had arrived with a painting candidate in mind. Too enticing to ignore, I chose a beautiful poinsettia arrangement to depict in an impressionistic way.
